Important Notes:

  1. This article is not a comprehensive discussion regarding accessing Ivo remotely.  intended to be a brief overview of the main options available and should serve merely as a basis for further detailed discussion with your IT provider, or 1024.
  2. IT providers should see these articles for complete technical information relating to Ivo configuration.
  3. 1024's recommended solution is to move Ivo to a Microsoft Azure virtual server.
  4. Please note that Ivo cannot be used from either Microsoft OneDrive or Microsoft Sharepoint, or any other file-syncing service such as DropBox, Sync, Box etc.



There are essentially two ways to access Ivo from outside your office -


  1. Moving Ivo to a server on the internet, completely separate from your office.  This has two sub-options -
    1. A virtual server hosted in the "cloud". This is 1024's recommended option.
    2. A physical server in a data centre (this option is not recommended, but is listed for the sake of completeness)
  2. Setting up remote access to your office network (article under construction).  This option means that Ivo is still stored on your office network, but you are enabling access to it from outside your office.  This is 1024's alternative recommendation if moving to the "cloud" is not desired.



1. Internet-based server


Within this option, there are two sub-options -


A cloud-based, "virtual" server, is not a distinct piece of hardware, but rather a logical "instance" of a server, that exists and operates on a highly resourced physical server.  Your virtual server will be one of many that are running on the physical server -

A physical machine in a data centre.  You may own the physical server and lease just the space in the data centre, or you may lease the physical server as well -

Leasing a physical server in a data centre has the benefit of being fully in your control.  You own the hardware.  The negatives are that you are also responsible for the hardware, backups, upgrades, and so on.  It is also a fairly expensive solution. This option has essentially been superseded by current "cloud" technologies.
